The large village of Tideswell is some 6 miles south east of Chapel-en-le-Frith just of the A623 Chesterfield road. The village is situated at around 1000ft in the Peak National Park and was once a centre for lead mining and quarrying. The 14th century church of St. John the Baptist is at the centre of the villages's renowned Well Dressing. This is a week of festivities which includes Morris Dancing and a torch lit procession. There are interesting stone crosses on all the roads leading to Tideswell. The origin of these is not known.
